In partnership with Shell Ultra City, Ocean Basket has opened their first takeaway outlet in Middelburg – the first in a four-year plan to open 40 such outlets across South Africa. In addition to providing consumers with fresh sushi to go – a global and popular trend – the new take-away restaurants have opened the door for franchisee opportunities for people who would otherwise not have afforded to open a full line store.
The concept in Middelburg forms part of a food court environment with four other brands and Ocean Basket’s participation offers a healthy and flavourful alternative to the usual burger, fries and pizza’s. “We felt there was a niche for a new type of convenience restaurant for people who are looking for something special and varied.” says Nana Lloyd, head of marketing for Ocean Basket. “From the consumer’s point of view, one of the major appeals of the new outlets will be the ability to guarantee freshness and offer a menu that goes far beyond typical seafood takeaway fare.”
