Wimpy has stretched its footprint even further with the launch of a brand-new restaurant in Cape Town. The V&A Waterfront branch opened its doors on the 1st of November, adding to the impressive tally of just under 500 restaurants countrywide.
The launch in the Mother City comes hot off the back of Wimpy’s recent birthday festivities, where they celebrated 50 years of shared moments with families around South Africa. The new V&A Waterfront restaurant marks the brand’s next step into the future. Its design was created with the existing look as a base, but it took inspiration from the location itself, and its surrounding areas.
“With our first restaurant in the prestigious V&A Waterfront, we knew we couldn’t just replicate our existing look,” said Creative Executive, Livia Coetzee. “Through the use of mixed materials, colour, detail, and texture, we’ve created something contemporary and filled with energy – a space to break away and enjoy a brand new Wimpy experience.
“It’s a new and exciting design – modern, with trend-aligned patterns and unique forms,” Coetzee added. “Yet it’s still distinctly the Wimpy that families have come to know and love over the years. We invite them to indulge in our fresh feel and additional menu items, with an uninterrupted view of the iconic Table Mountain.”
Speaking of the menu, Wimpy has added a variety of new items that are perfectly suited to Cape Town. Among the classics, this should make choosing a favourite meal all the more difficult.
“If you’re a fan of Gatsbys, you can’t go wrong with our Hake Mighty Sub,” said Wimpy’s Chef Leanne Fraser. “It’s layered with mixed lettuce, fresh tomato, cucumber for crunch, red onions, and our delicate but crispy hake goujons, all of which are drizzled with a full-of-flavour tartare sauce. It’s bound to make you come back for more!”
There are also other meals to look forward to at the new V&A Waterfront Wimpy. The Crispy Stack Up Burger for example, is a towering treat that includes a Wimpy beef patty, streaky bacon, cheddar cheese, and crispy fried onion rings, all brought together with Wimpy’s delicious chili mayo.
Those wanting something healthier to indulge in can look forward to three new Lunch Bowl options. A favourite, for example, is the Chicken Schnitzel Lunch Bowl. Its golden brown deliciousness is rounded off with Wimpy’s very own mustard mayo.
What’s an outing to a family-favourite restaurant in summer without a delicious, ice-cold refreshment? To complement the season and the new restaurant launch, there’s a Strawberry Mojito Sharing Jug, amongst other flavours, on offer. “It’s the perfect meal companion,” said Chef Fraser. “It’s also perfect for sharing!”
The new restaurant can be found on the 1st floor at the V&A Waterfront. It’s especially easy to spot, thanks to its signature Wimpy PlayWorld positioned right in the window. Children playing and having fun is a vital part of the overall Wimpy experience, so it’s important that they can look forward to enjoying themselves when stopping by for a meal. Their parents, meanwhile, can sit back and relax. The PlayWorld is in easy view from all sides of the restaurant, so they can keep an eye on their children comfortably from wherever they’re sitting.
“Though the V&A Waterfront branch’s look is modern and on trend, there’s no missing the iconic red benches,” said Luise Peters, Wimpy Marketing Manager. “With comfortable seating and cosy spaces, we encourage our customers in Cape Town to make time for more shared moments together.”
