The Brand

Martin and Annalize Piek founded Martin’s Funerals in November 1989.

Martin gave a small office space to his wife at the back of his first business, Penny Shop, only to bring in an extra income. Within a few months, Martin’s Funerals expanded drastically, causing them to close Penny Shop to cope with the demands of Martin’s Funerals.

They used their family car, a Mercedes 230, and a self-designed, home built hearse trailer in the course of their business. Martin, Annalize and two helpers, part-time, started building the business.

Through the grace of God the business expanded at a rapid pace.

They employed more and more staff like general workers, agents, and cleaners. As the business expanded to thirteen branches, fully self-supported, interested parties asked to extend the business over a larger area and to sell them franchises. The company soon grew from one office in Randfontein to a group with 170 outlets country wide, and still growing!

Martin’s Funerals is a company dedicated to its clients. Martin’s is always available to all who request their services and treat them with lots of love and compassion.

Martin’s Funerals consists of a nationwide network of franchises and outlets, striving to deliver a high standard of service, identifying them as a leading force in the funeral industry.


Martin’s Funerals is a dynamic and efficient group who are the leaders in the funeral industry and will continue to be.

Our franchisees are from all walks of life and with our guidance and assistance they become successful and operate profitable businesses.

We are the biggest funeral franchise group in South Africa.


The franchisee attends a comprehensive 14 days training programme comprising of one week theory and one week practical. On-going training and support in all aspects of operating a successful business is provided.

Franchisees also receive a full set of Operations Manuals.
