The concept originates in the USA and initially was going to be used as kitchen counter tops until we realized the size of the tombstone market in SA. Started back in 2010 from a garage at home in Hilton, KZN. In 2011 rented our first warehouse and set up a small showroom in one of the offices. Today Royal Tombstones has factories in 3 provinces and Botswana with 15 retail stores. Royal Tombstones is also listed with 2 of the biggest players in the funeral industry being Doves and Avbob. Royal is partnered with MyLife funeral policies who offer our tombstones in their policies country wide. Royal Tombstones will be the leading tombstone business in South Africa over the next 5 years with around 100 stores rolled out offering South Africans unique high-quality tombstones but at affordable prices and excellent service.
Royal Tombstones offers a unique granolithic tombstone that looks and feels like granite but at a much more affordable price, offering a bigger more impressive looking tombstone that is now more affordable to the masses. We are also one of the only tombstone manufacturing company to have factories in 3 major provinces. The concept is also not dependent on the economic environment at the time. Retail franchise shops are set up in areas in any town where there is high foot traffic. Target market is general public and funeral parlours. A franchise will only require one staff member to manage the shop as main function is processing sales the factory does the rest. A franchisee can owe one or several shops and still keep their current job. So its an opportunity for both male and female entrepreneurs.
The franchisee will get staff training at our head office in Pietermaritzburg for one week and one week in the retail shop. Staff will be trained on the tombstone’s descriptions, processes and sales. MyLife policies will also train staff on the process of offering a policy as well as what is required to sign up a member. Support will be on going as and when needed. We want every franchise to reach their maximum potential hence we are always willing to assist whenever needed as its to the benefit of the Royal Family brand.
