Since 1967, when founder and executive chairman, Allen Ambor, opened the Golden Spur in Newlands, Cape Town, Spur Steak Ranches have been part of the South African family. In the years since then, Spur has helped create countless special memories and earned a reputation for tasty, nutritious, value-for-money meals. We've also grown into an internationally recognised brand with over 237 local and 28 international restaurants – pop in and enjoy the great taste of Spur next time you're in the United Kingdom, Australia or Mauritius. So, what's our recipe for success? Simple: a warm, relaxed, family-friendly environment; generous portions of great tasting food; and a hearty helping of quality!

The Brand

Since the opening of the first Spur in 1967, Spur Steak Ranches has grown into one of the most recognised brands in the country and today it is fondly known as ‘the official restaurant of the South African family’. Spur prides itself as a family dining franchise, offering quality, value-for-money meals in a welcoming and convivial environment. It’s this distinct combination that has aided in the success of the individually owned and operated Spur restaurants, together with the fact that Spur People keep their customers at the centre of the Spur brand.

The Spur Group listed on the JSE in 1986, at which stage it had 43 franchised Spur Steak Ranches outlets. It currently has 272 Spur Steak Ranches in South Africa and 40 international outlets.

Spur looks forward to welcoming its patrons, with a widespread menu and generous portions including the famous Spur Burger, Spur Ribs, Buffalo Wings, and other South African favourites. The environment also caters for younger patrons, with the Spur Play Canyon and fun activities available to them—this gives parents the space and time to enjoy their meal.

Training takes place at one of our training restaurants throughout the country where the franchisee, along with their management and staff, will undergo an extensive programme that will equip them with the tools that they need to run a successful restaurant in our group. We also have a very successful training department that host a broad curriculum of courses at our Regional training facilities. Operational Support is offered by our hands on Operations team who conduct activities monthly ensuring that standards are upheld and monitor service levels.

Are You Our Next Franchisee?

Previous experience in the hospitality industry is advantageous but not a must. Franchisees must be enthusiastic, hands on and motivated. They should also be passionate about food and customer service, as this will set them in good stead to be successful. They must be prepared to work long hours and be extremely driven and energetic.
