Universal Paints began as a family business, established in 1982 and then acquired by Medu Capital in 2016. We have a rich heritage encompassing years of experience in manufacturing and distribution of consistent quality guaranteed product ranges through a network of direct outlets. Universal Paints has, over the years, built a reputation of producing top quality products, using only the best imported and locally sourced raw materials.

All Universal Paints products are exclusively sold in our dedicated direct outlets. This eliminates high overhead prices and the cost of “middlemen” and these savings are passed on to our customers directly.

In an independent comparative test conducted at the Centre for Paints Technology, on 6 reputable S.A paint brands, only Universal Paints passed with 100% performance in the 3 categories tested. Universal Paints based on the current market offers the best value for money.

Universal Paints is a premium brand that manufactures locally produced quality guaranteed paint, developed by expert technical teams. We offer specialised expert advice obtained through years of experience in the industry. We supply and service consumers who understand the value of quality, longevity and expert service while we focus on producing and selling quality in every colour produced. Our route to market is through our network of dedicated Universal Paints direct outlets. Owners and staff provide friendly and technical service and are fully trained to match any colour sample brought into our stores. Customers can choose from our selection of thousands of colour swatches available, and colours can be matched and mixed in-store.

We are focused on consistently producing a high-quality paint solution to our customers and a great effort is placed on quality of production.

We are able to deliver a superior product and service, at competitive pricing through our direct outlets to the
contractor, commercial and DIY market. We aim to educate our customers on the technical aspects of quality paint, enabling them to start making educated choices regarding paint, including the application of the product.

Our target market includes DIY, contractors and the commercial and residential specification market (we serve an LSM of 7-10+).

Typical locations are strip malls, neighbourhood and value centres and we have a total staff compliment of 3-5 people per store.

Training is provided for owners and staff by Universal Paints and sundry suppliers and includes technical and product knowledge. Refresher training will be provided from time to time and we participate in train the trainer initiatives.

We provide support in respect of mass brand advertising, stock protection, leasing, site procurement, training and shopfitting. We assist with on site specifications and technical advice.

Owners are required to attend regional meetings on a regular basis and they must participate in local store marketing initiatives.

Are You Our Next Franchisee?

Every Universal Paints direct outlet is owner-operated. Owners are hands-on and required to spend at least 80% of their time working directly on building their Universal Paints business.

Owners are not required to have industry experience, however, they need to ensure that they have an experienced team on board.
